The ReadyScore relays each country’s ability to find, stop and prevent health threats, with higher scores indicating a greater level of preparedness. The score is calculated using data from the Joint External Evaluation (JEE), a transparent, rigorous and internationally-accepted tool from the World Health Organization (WHO) developed to help countries identify preparedness gaps and strengths.
Each country in the world has committed to reporting epidemic threats, and to prepare for new outbreaks. On average, there are more than 100 outbreaks occurring around the world every day. It takes just 36 hours for an infectious disease to spread globally, and more than 80% of countries that have assessed their preparedness are not ready to find, stop or prevent an epidemic.
