The COVID-19 pandemic has led to higher infection and death rates for health care workers compared to the general population. Sadly, this is not a new phenomenon. Health care worker infections threaten our ability to respond to disease outbreaks, and make all of us less safe. A new report ‘Protecting our Front Line: How to Keep Health Care Workers Safe’ by Resolve to Save Lives, an initiative of Vital Strategies lays out recommendations for governments, health systems, and funders to address this problem. https://bit.ly/39qscFW #protecthealthworkers

As of September 2020, over 7,000 health care workers had died fighting COVID-19, and that number has continued to grow in the past few months. It is unacceptable that we know how to protect health care workers, but don’t. Simple improvements in infection prevention and control, health workforce training, socioeconomic and legal support, and continuous monitoring and improvement will make health care workers, their patients and their health systems safer.
